Mission Statement

THE AMHERST CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT

THE MISSION OF AMHERST CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL IS TO INSPIRE AND EDUCATE FOR EXCELLENCE IN LIFE WITHIN A CHANGING WORLD

We, the faculty, believe that...

¨       Students are in need of professional direction as they grow toward autonomy in the learning process and that this process should be conducted under the supervision of the school.

¨       Students learn best when they can achieve success within the range of their abilities and interests.

¨       Each teacher should be free to create appropriate learning environments within the broad context of the existing syllabi.

¨       Learning experiences become most desirable and meaningful when they enable students to fulfill present needs, interests, and goals and to accept the consequences of their actions.  In this way, these experiences are not something apart from the students, but rather an integral part of their daily lives.

¨       Only well-informed, participating citizens can produce an effective representative government.

¨       People must function as part of the social context.  Therefore, students should be made aware of their rights as individuals within the social context and they should be made aware of their responsibilities to the social context.
