August 20, 2010
Well….It has been an amazing summer full of bright and sunny days, lots of time for hanging out with friends and family, and vacations. But, as we near the end of August, it is time for us to focus a little bit of our attention on the beginning of another school year.
Many of you have received your child’s schedule in the mail. While each student schedule looks essentially the same as it always has, some students might be schedule for something called ReACH for one period. The term “study hall” has been replaced by ReACH. We decided on this acronym because it explicitly outlines what we want our students doing during ReACH periods.
Students should be focused on:
Reading
Activities related to a class or school project
Character Development work
Homework
I also want to remind the parents of our incoming 6th graders that our Where Everyone Belongs (WEB) program will be held on Thursday, September 2nd at Amherst Middle School. The program is for students only, and we will have a light lunch for them at the conclusion of the program at 12:15. We are also inviting parents to join their children in the afternoon to prepare lockers.
The first full day of school for the 2010-2011 school year is Wednesday, September 8.
Please also join me in thanking Pam Incontro, Janice Miller, and Nadean Montalbano for all of their incredible work on the gardens in front of our school. They have spent many hours weeding, edging, trimming, and planting. The gardens look great! I’d also like to recognize Lowe’s Home Center on Niagara Falls Boulevard for donating about $150.00 worth of landscape materials to their efforts.
Enjoy the rest of summer, and get ready for a great school year!
